"Many years ago, before online marketing became the new norm, we were still handing out flyers at traffic lights and sending generic emails to our clients. We were still doing telesales and door-to-door cold calling, which, for the time, was best practice and how we got most of our leads. As with most things, this became more and more difficult, especially in South Africa. Walls and gates were being erected, and you couldn’t just call up a company and get to the decision-maker to book a meeting. People were reluctant to take flyers, and most people stopped buying newspapers and magazines where we also advertised. We had a website on Google so people could find our contact details, but we weren’t the most clued up on how to maximize the potential of this. We were looking at entering the realm of online marketing, and this is where we were introduced to Leon Steyn by one of our colleagues.
